Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?
Yes, tickets must be purchased in advance. Tours often sell out so we suggest purchasing your tickets early to guarantee your desired tour day. You can buy your tickets online, or by phone with a Visa, Mastercard or American Express at (551) 233-9553. Cash is not accepted.
What about inclement weather?
Tours run rain or shine, so we ask that you dress accordingly. In the case of severe weather, the tour may be canceled and tickets can either be refunded or scheduled for an alternate date.
How much walking and standing is involved? What should I wear?
There is a fair amount of walking on our tours. We recommend dressing casually and wearing comfortable walking shoes, as we will be on our feet most of the time. The tour is conducted at a relaxed pace, making stops at not only the food establishments, but historical landmarks or other spots of interest along the way. Seating varies from place to place.
What if I have dietary restrictions or food allergies?
Please let us know if anyone in your party has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, etc) or food allergy when you purchase your tickets. As long as we know in advance, we will work to accommodate your needs to the best of our ability. However, please note that there may be some tastings on the tour that can be difficult to replace and that we cannot guarantee substitutions for all tastings.
How much food do we eat on the tasting tours?
We generally stop at 5-7 locations. Enough food is served to amount to a satisfying meal for most participants.
Are there any beverages included?
We provide water bottles on most of our tasting tours. Some tours, only if noted in the tour description, involve additional beverage pairings. You are also welcome to purchase other alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages along the way.
Is a gratuity for the tour guide included?
There is no tip included for your guide but 15 to 20% is customary in the tourism industry. If you enjoyed your time on the tour, please be sure to take care of our tour guides.
What about taking children on the tour?
Our friendly and knowledgeable tour guides make learning about history, culture and food, interesting and fun. Please gauge whether or not you think a tour would be appropriate for your child. Children under the age of 5 are free if they will not be participating in the food tastings. You may bring your stroller on the tour, but if the food establishment is busy, it will have to remain outside.
Are bathrooms available along the tour route?
Yes, there will be opportunities to use the bathroom at several of our tasting locations.
I live in or around Jersey City – is this tour for me?
Absolutely! While you may be familiar with some of the stops, you will have the opportunity to try new items at the tasting locations, learn more about the establishments themselves as well as the history of the area. Plus, being a local gives you the opportunity to re-visit many of the establishments on the tour in the future. Additionally, this tour is an excellent way to entertain out-of-town guests, celebrate a special occasion or encourage professional team building. Our goal is to provide a unique experience for locals and non-locals alike.
Is the tour wheelchair accessible? What about stroller?
Some of the establishments have steps leading to the entrance and are not wheelchair accessible. Most of them are also very small. If you are able to leave the wheelchair outside and enter with a cane, the tour can accommodate you. Strollers will also have to remain outside.
Are cameras allowed?
Yes, cameras are permitted and we encourage taking photos! Please feel free to post your favorite photos to our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and use hashtag #JGFT. Video cameras are not allowed.
Where does the tour begin and end?
The location of the start will be provided at the time of ticket purchase. The end of the tour is more or less .5 miles from the starting location. Your tour guide will be more than happy to give directions for public transportation or point you in the right direction for your next destination.
Is parking available near the meeting location?
Depending on the tour, there are a few parking garages within a short walking distance of the meeting location and street parking is available but limited. Please read all signs when looking for street parking to avoid getting ticketed. Specific parking details will be provided when you purchase tickets.
Are tours only offered in English?
Yes, all tours are only offered in English.
Can I shop at some of the stops?
Certainly, as much as time allows. Depending on the tour, we spend about 20-25 minutes at each location. But please keep in mind, part of your tour guide’s job is to ensure we stick to the schedule so that each food establishment can be prepared for our group. We hope that if you like a food vendor or restaurant, that you will return on another occasion!
Are gift certificates available?
Yes! Gift certificates are available for purchase and make great gifts for family and friends. If you have any questions about purchasing or redeeming gift certificates, please email email@example.com.
Can I book a private or customized group tour?
Yes, we would love to host your private group tour. They’re great for bachelorette parties, corporate events and social groups. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (551) 233-9553 for more information.
Is there a minimum/maximum number of people needed to run tours?
Generally speaking, we only run tours with at least 4 people. In the case that we need to cancel a tour, we will contact you ahead of time to reschedule your tickets. Public tours cap between 12 and 15 people.
Are food tours offered in cities other than Jersey City and Rutherford?
At the moment, we are very close to launching in Red Bank, Hoboken and Princeton for Fall/Early Winter 2017. That’s just the beginning and we welcome suggestions, too!
Is JGFT only for “Jersey Girls?”
Absolutely not! Don’t let the name fool ya. The name represents the two strong female entrepreneurs who founded the company. Our tours are for anyone willing to explore a new way of experiencing the world of food, history and fun.
