Formerly known as Garden State Food Tours, the name “Jersey Girls Food Tours” highlights the two NJ female entrepreneurs who founded the company. But don’t let the name fool ya! While we are big advocates of female entrepreneurship, especially in the hospitality and food industries, our tours are created for both ladies AND gents looking for a fun, new way to explore their local food communities. We eat out… a lot. After some unwanted weight gain (so worth it), you can be sure we’ve handpicked the best eateries and food samples for our guests! Whether you’re visiting as a tourist or ready to explore what’s in your own backyard, we look forward to showing off what the New Jersey culinary scene has to offer. If there is anything we can do to improve your Jersey Girls Food Tour experience, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
Coming from a Cuban and Chinese background, Janis grew up eating a variety of exotic foods and naturally developed a passion for all things edible and delicious. A graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology, she began her career in the corporate world of retail merchandising and more recently in International Wholesale Operations with Coach, Inc. After over 7 years with Coach, Janis’ life path lead her to chase her long term dream of owning a company and pursuing a food related venture. The combination of moving to downtown Jersey City, the proper exposure to community involved neighbors, starting a food blog, and destiny would lead her to meet her future business partner. Janis has a true love for food. Just talk to her for five minutes about her favorite restaurants and you will see that sparkle in her eye. Excitement, passion, and a strong attention to detail go into every task she is involved in, which is evident in her contributions to JGFT. Providing detailed restaurant recommendations for friends, befriending restaurant owners and chefs, and creatively planning personal events for years now, she can finally say her passions have been turned into a career. A true local expert, Janis is also a real estate agent with local brokerage PRIME Real Estate Group, specializing in the Jersey City & Hoboken area.
Like most college graduates, Alessia dabbled in various fields of work after graduating from Rutgers University. She moved from New Brunswick to Jersey City and was a star saleswoman at both Hale and Hearty Soups and Yelp Inc. Despite success, she realized this wasn’t the career path she wanted. She took some time to travel and upon her return, held various jobs at restaurants in the NYC/JC area, learning more and more about the food industry. Alessia always wanted her own business and after almost three years in Jersey City (and a whole lot of restaurant jobs and persistence), she decided there was no better place and no better way to incorporate her love of food than to start a food tour company. Her favorite part is being able to build lasting relationships with restaurant owners and create memorable dining experiences for guests of JGFT. When she isn’t frequenting the best local restaurants or foodie events, you can catch her planning her next dream vacation, cooking for her family & friends, or guest writing for local blogs. Her favorite cuisine is Peruvian and she’s most inspired by her sister’s creative and sustainable approach to cooking delicious farm-to-table food.
